Once you complete all of your requirements, we will send your certificate in to the RMV. About 7-10 days after that, you can schedule a road test with the RMV for your JOL license.
**The RMV does not allow you to schedule your road test until you have had your permit for 6 months to the day.**
Once you have completed driver education, you may opt to schedule an optional practice road test with us. These are one hour in length and a parent is welcome to join you and hear the feedback from our instructors. The fee for this is $25 on a weekday or $35 on a weekend.
Due to the pandemic, we are currently unable to sponsor students for their road tests. A parent or guardian should bring students to the RMV. All students are required to use Department of Transportation vehicles for their tests and no sponsors or parents/guardians are allowed in the car.
Fees charged by the RMV:
- Road test fee: $35
- License fee: $50
Preparing for the RMV Road Test
Doing something for the first time can be very stressful. When that is a Road Test and all that stands between a student and obtaining their driver’s license, the stress is magnified.
The RMV’s Road Test Team has filmed several videos for students preparing for a road test. There are four videos are available on YouTube by clicking here. Below is a short outline of each video:
- Video 1: Getting Ready at the Service Center: Learn what documents are required to present before you take a road test. Without these documents, you will not be eligible to take the road test.
- Video 2: Driving the Car: This video shows you what’s involved on the road test. The Road Text Examiner will observe you while on the road to ensure that you can safely operate a vehicle, follow the rules of the road, and obey traffic signs.
- Video 3: Maneuvers: You will have to demonstrate your skills on how to safely perform some basic maneuvers and safely check your surroundings.
- Video 4: Getting the Grade Back at the Service Center: At the conclusion of your test, the examiner will provide you with some constructive criticism on what you did well and what you didn’t do well, and you’ll receive results of your road test.
CCACE Road Test Sponsorship (in non-pandemic times)
If you want us to sponsor your test (Cambridge, Leominster, Lowell, Watertown, or Wilmington locations) with a school car, we can do so for a fee of $100*.
Road tests are scheduled weekdays between 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. During the school year, please schedule your test between 9:00 am – 1:00 pm if you would like us to sponsor you. We plan for two hours for each road test, including travel to the RMV, the test, and a return to CCHS. After you book your road test, contact Rebecca or Jill immediately so that we can reserve a car and schedule a teacher-sponsor for you. *
